Markus had the great pleasure and privilege to succeed Peter Schmid as the Resources Coordinator in 2001 and to serve ATLAS for 12 years. He really enjoyed working with all his colleagues and is immensely proud of the achievements of ATLAS up to the present day. Together with Marzio Nessi, Markus moved on in 2013 to create IdeaSquare, the demonstrator for ATTRACT, both of which are in active operation. Bearing the fancy title of Head of Resources Development (IPT-DI), he is coordinating multi-disciplinary innovation projects at IdeaSquare and coordinates the many sensor and imaging R&D&I initiatives within ATTRACT. Prior to these activities, he was in Strategic Planning and Knowledge Transfer activities at CERN for a decade, having entered the world of CERN as a young hothead in the DELPHI experiment in the mid 1980s. Markus has also served as Visiting Senior Research Fellow at the Centrum voor Bedrijfseconomie, Faculty ESP-Solvay Business School, University of Brussels. He is a member of the European Physical Society, Strategic Management Society and the Association of Finnish Parliament Members and Scientists, TUTKAS. He has a degree both in Physics and in Business Administration.
